Forced Marriage

Danish authorities must not, under any circumstances, contribute to marriages being entered into under duress, i.e. violence, threats and other forms of undue pressure.

Anyone who, under duress, forces someone to enter into marriage or to be a party to a religious marriage without civil validity will be punished with a fine or imprisonment for up to 4 years.

A foreign national can be expelled if he/she has forced someone to enter into marriage or to be a party to a religious wedding without civil validity against that person's will.
